Dear Parents,
I can’t believe we only have 2 days left of school! It’s been such a great year and I feel so privileged to have worked with your children. We are going to have a great week. Here are the details/important info for the next two days: Tuesday May 29th: 1. Field Day - Our color for field day is yellow. Students can wear a yellow t-shirt with shorts/ jeans or they can wear sprit dress. If they are not in sprit dress or a yellow shirt, they must be in uniform. If students don’t have a yellow shirt, I have purchased some yellow bandanas for our class to wear. Students should bring a water bottle and towel to school, and they can bring a change of clothes if they would like to. They may also want to wear sunscreen to school. Field day will be from 10:45 – 12:00. Then we will eat lunch at 12:00 – 12:30. 2. Solar Ovens – In the afternoon we will be making solar ovens using what we’ve learned this year in Science about heat and energy. 3. Materials to bring home – Students cleaned out lockers on Friday but still have items to bring home tomorrow. They should bring backpacks to school to bring their items home. 4. Yearbook signing – at 2:00 we will be having a 6th grade yearbook signing. 5. All missing and makeup work is due Tuesday May 29th. Wednesday May 30th: 1. Dear Parents,
Last week we began our end of year testing starting with the SRI which is the Reading Test used in 4th-9th grade to determine a student’s reading level. Our class did a great job. I’m so proud of the progress they’ve made! Ask your child what Lexile level they scored. Upcoming Events/Important Information:

This upcoming week is going to be filled with fun activities! We'll be participating in Hope and Kindness/Spirit week and we will also be having a Valentine's Day Party! Valentine's Day Party Details: In order for our class to have a successful party, we need your help! We need some items donated for the party and would greatly appreciate your support. It sure is a pleasure to work with your students every day. Please let me know right away if you have any questions! Thank you! Mrs. Reese http://mrsreese6thgrade.weebly.com Recent Happenings:
• Last week the Jr. High had an Open House for incoming students. Thanks to everyone who was able to make it! The students are getting excited and nervous for Jr. High and the more they know about what to expect the more they will be prepared for success next year! • This week we had the Peer Leadership team from Herriman come visit our classroom. They taught the students how to avoid peer pressure using peer refusal skills. Ask your child about what they learned! Upcoming Events: • Tomorrow, 1/26/18, is 1920’s day. We will be going back in time to learn about life in the 1920’s! Students are encouraged to dress in 1920’s clothing. • At ELA we are allowed 3-4 class parties a year. We would like to have a Valentine’s Party for our class on February 14th. I’m looking for some volunteers to help plan and organize the party! Please contact me if you are interested. • Thursday, February 1st, students in grades 3-9 who met their Aleks goal will be able to wear their pajamas, with their wristband, and attend a special pie assembly with Mrs. Young, Mr. Alder, Mrs. Beach, Mrs. Berry, and other special guests. You should receive an e-mail from your child’s math teacher if they made the 50% goal. Don’t be discouraged if your child didn’t make it to 50% yet. There will be two more incentives in March and May for getting to 75% and 100%. • We will be starting Hope Squad in 4th – 6th Grade. Please see the attached letter with more information. This week the students nominated peers to be on Hope Squad. If you child was nominated you will be receiving an e-mail in the next few days. Weekly Reminders: • Please check my website for Weekly Homework and our 2-week lesson plan outline. Thank you for your support, Mrs. Reese Early Light Academy Rm. 325 Dear Parents,
The school year is officially half way over. I’m truly impressed with what the students have accomplished. They all did such a wonderful job at the Science Fair. It was great to see the final product of all of the hard work they put into their projects. We officially started Term 3 today. The students all cleaned out their dockets and are ready for a fresh new start. This term students will be getting their own Aspire accounts so they will be able to check on their own grades and missing work. Upcoming Events to be aware of:
What we’ll be learning this term: Math – Tomorrow we’ll be taking our 2nd Benchark and then we’ll continue on with Algegra learning about equations and then moving on to Functions and Inequalities. Language Arts – We’ll continue working through our Reading Street program and we’ll be starting a new novel study on the book, Crispin, which is a historical fiction novel that takes place in the Middle Ages. Science: We started a new Unit in Science today. We’ll be learning about water cycle, weather and climate. To learn more about what we do on a daily basis head to my website and check on my Two-Weeks-at a glance or my Homework page. I appreciate all of your support at home. I do welcome volunteers into our class so if you are interested in volunteering please contact me and we’ll set up a time. Sincerely, Mrs. Reese http://mrsreese6thgrade.weebly.com/ Weekly Parent Update
